Licence Protector allows controlling of licenses within a network - without the need to install an activate programme/service on the server. The complete license testing is done by the DLL from the workstation. The only requirement for network licencing is that each PC has read and write access to the network folder, which contains the license file. The license testing is done on module level - each module can have its own license information - e.g.:
- module A - 10 licenses per user
- module B - 5 licenses per PC
- module C - 8 licenses per concurrent user
It can be defined, whether the user can unlock / free a license within the License Viewer - e.g. if a user does not need the application any more.3 different types of network licenses are supported (depending on the Licence Protector Edition).
License per PC
Each PC needs a license. The host name of the machine is used for verification. This license is also called license per seat. The license is assigned to the machine after the first usage of the application/module.If the application runs on a Citrix / Terminal server, then the hostname of the local PC and not the hostname of the server is used.
License per Windows or Application User
Each user needs a license. The Windows user name or the name of a user within an application (or any other ID like IP-address) can be used. The license is assigned to the user after the first usage of the application/module.
License per Concurrent User / Floating License
The license is assigned only as long as the application is running. If the application is terminated, the license is available again. If a user logs in with the same user name on 2 different PCs then 2 licenses are used.Licence Protector offers a sophisticated verification of concurrent user licenses. Machines that hang or crashed applications are detected and the license is released. This is all done automatically through the DLL.
