This feature prevents the application from being run on different machines. It binds the licenSe file to a hardware-specific item or to a specific software application. Details for each criteria can be found in the
Online Help.
Licence Protector supports binding to hardware and software components.
Binding to a Hardware Component
Volume ID
This method restricts the user to run the application only on the specified drive volume.
MAC Address
The MAC Address (Media Access Control) is the hardware address of a network adapter.
Hostname
The windows PC name is unique within a network and can be used for copy protection.
NetBIOS Computer Name 1)
The NetBIOS computer name is available on every PC. It can be used for software copy protection only on a single user installation.Details about Hostname / NetBIOS Computer Name.
Volume ID + UNC Pathname
This Installation Code combines the Volume ID with the absolute path of the license file. Assume a situation where an application is installed several times on the same machine, but in different directories: The Volume ID is identical on all installations and therefore the installation may be used by too many users (3 installations with 20 licenses allow 60 users to work with your software, but you only sold 20 licenses). With this installation code type the problem of several installations is eliminated.
MAC Address + UNC Pathname
This Installation Code combines the MAC address with the absolute path of the license file (for details why using the pathname see Volume ID + UNC pathname).
Hostname + UNC Pathname
This Installation Code combines the hostname with the absolute path of the license file (for details why using the pathname see Volume ID + UNC pathname).
Combination Volume ID + MAC Address + Hostname + UNC Pathname 1)
This Installation Code offers the most restrictive protection as all criteria have to match.
Combination Volume ID + MAC Address + Hostname 1)
Restrictive protection for single user applications.
IP Address 1)
Uses the IP address of the licensed hardware. Only possible if a static IP address is available.
Domain-Name 1)
This installation code is a very good criteria if you have a company wide (unlimited) license. Binding the license to the domain ensures, that every user can install the application and that there are no problems regarding hardware codes.
USB-Stick 1)
This unique feature binds the license to a standard USB stick. Licence Protector combines the advantages of software copy protection with the advantages of hardware protection
Windows ID
The Windows ID combines Windows operating system information and hardware used on a computer system and is similar to a Windows UUID. The Windows ID will be different even on virtual machines (if you clone one Windows copy and run it on a virtual machine). The advantage of this ID is, that it will seldom change. Changing the hostname, volume ID or MAC address will not affect this installation code. This is the recommended installation code for single user installations.
1) = available only with the Professional Edition
Important Functions
The user can move the application from PC A to PC B.
Details how to move a license. Most protection schemes work on servers or workstations. If the license file is on a server, then the hardware (e.g. Volume ID, Mac Address or hostname) of a server is used. If the license file is on a local machine, then the hardware of the local machine is used. The product activation can be done from a local workstation even if a server license is used.
Binding to an Application
License File ID
Each licence file has a unique licence file ID. Your application could check on this ID. The advantage over the method with the volume ID is, that your user can move the application to another machine ? but it will only run with this specific license file. The license file ID is created when you save the license file and therefore need not be transmitted to you. An Activation Key can also be bound to a license file ID.
